It has been a month of Hard Work
Since my last update I have been slogging it out in the trenches. I have de-riveted and re-riveted hundreds of pairs of glasses and shipped them out. I have also had to repair the glasses of customers that had rivet failures. As I said if you have had rivet failure and the side-shield is no longer attached to the frame I will re-rivet both shields with the new much stronger rivets.
Ship to
O’Riginals Trading Co
1217 SE Spokane St
Portland, OR 97202
I will pay both shipping from you and back. I will pay via paypal once you email me the receipt. I want to thank those of you who have declined that I pay the postage from you to me… it certainly has helped as this has been an expensive failure.
Make sure you include your return address.
Because of the failure I had to pause production while we tested several different types of rivets. The only rivets that work are the ones I procured. In the interest of time I exported my rivets to the factory and instructed that they now be used. Production has started again.
The first shipment of new riveted frames are now clearing US customs and should be to me by the middle to the end of next week. As always I will ship out what they send me. I cannot guarantee any specific color is in until I receive them.
As a side note of the 1400+ backers over 1100 have been fulfilled.
To accomplish the riveting I had to custom design an offset that I had welded to an Arbor press. Below is a link to a video I posted on Facebook which will allow you to see the process I had to go through to repair all the glasses.

So that is the update for now.

What a week Part 1
Monday
I excitedly received a glasses shipment. Upon opening them all looked well… and then…. Rivets. I began testing the side-shield rivets and they were, for lack of a better word, awful. I was able to make every rivet fail within 5 seconds. Almost 100% failure rate. I couldn’t ship these. Everything else was perfect, but the rivets.
My wife said she was worried about me because I was so quiet as I sat and made rivet after rivet fail. Usually, I am fairly vocal and loud. Not this time. I was trying to figure out what I was going to do. I can’t send 500 glasses back to be repaired. Who knows how long that would take? 90 days? 120 Days? Forever?
‘What am I going to do?’ I thought. What came to me is what I have learned working at The Nike World Headquarters.
“When faced with a tough decision, do what is best for the customer.”
Tuesday Morning
I called Oregon Rivet and explained the issue and what I thought the problem was that caused the rivets to shear off. Within a half hour I was sitting with a rivet expert, talking rivets and presenting my solution.
Nike Maxim 7 states “Evolve Immediately.”
I will fix this myself.
I ordered sample brass rivets from Jay-Cee out of Michigan. The exact kind that American Optical, Cesco and Welsh used to use in their glasses that still work 100 years later. So strong.
My wife and I packed the kids into the car and were off to Ikea. $600 later I put together a work area to remove and re-rivet the 600 pair of glasses that I have received.
To do this right and in a timely manner I have to do it myself, my background restoring these glasses sure helps. If the sample rivets worked I would de-rivet and re-rivet 600 pair of glasses. That is 4 rivets per pair.
Wednesday
12 hours at Nike and then home. I was so nervous, what if this won’t work? I got home and on the table was a Fed-Ex from Jay-Cee. Rivets.

What a week Part 2
AMAZING!!! OUTSTANDING!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!
The rivets are better than I could have hoped. Once the glasses were riveted I tried to make them fail. Not a chance. They are so strong. The solution worked.
I have now ordered 10,000 rivets to re do this entire shipment and any future failure of glasses already in the possession of backers.
Rivets are being plated. I will be de-riveting for the next several days. Then I will rivet and start shipping again at the end of next week.

Me at my new work area de-riveting. Look at all those flats of glasses behind me. My blue nails courtesy of my 7 year old daughter.
Backers who have Received Glasses
If you have a rivet problem your glasses would probably been shipped after May 1st.
Once I have rivets in I will do another update for you here. If you have had a failure I will re-rivet your glasses for you and will for as long as you own them. I will pay for shipment. In some cases it may be more cost effective for me to ship anew pair of glasses.
I am not taking new shipments from the factory until I see samples with the new rivet I have specified. That should happen by the end of next week.
I am currently looking for a manufacturing consultant and VC to bring the entire Operation to Portland, OR. and want to work with a local foundation that helps victims of Domestic Violence find new jobs for employment.
So that’s it for now. If I haven’t answered an email I apologize I have been buried. I will try and hit them tomorrow or Saturday.

The Good and The Bad
The Good
Another shipment just cleared through customs and should be to me on Monday or Tuesday, I will continue to rock shipping. Please remember this is a one man show, it is just me testing, packaging, labeling and shipping.
The Bad
In a relatively small percentage of glasses from the last two batches, there has been a rivet popping issue where one or more rivets have popped from the frame and have to be replaced.
It is vexing and I have been handling it in the best way I know how. I have been replacing these glasses as a whole to get them out of circulation.
Make no mistake, I will stand behind my product or I won't have a product.
Backers that have contacted me regarding this issue have been sent a new pair of glasses with a return label to ship the broken ones back to me. In two cases it happened again and I replaced again.
If a rivet pops you will know it and it will do it almost immediately or within a short period of time. To those that this has happened to and have contacted me, you know I have taken care of it. You can even leave a comment about how I have handled this on the Indiegogo comments page here. Crowdfunding is messy and Crowdfunding is hard so as always, I won't hold back or hide an issue. I am always trying to be as transparent as possible.
If you have a rivet issue I will take care of it. Simple as that.
This issue should resolve, I have been on top of the Factory and we think it will be fixed going forward with a stronger rivet option, however, a few may slip through so if yours have broken, get in touch and I will replace them post haste, as long as I have the stock in to do it.
Please email me directly to [email protected]
Thanks,
Sean

Shipping Continues.
As many of you know I have been receiving shipments from my factory and have been fulfilling backers. I received a shipment yesterday and another large shipment is leaving the factory tomorrow.
